The Rotaract Club of PSGCAS has been instrumental in harnessing the energy and creativity of students for the good of the society, while at the same time developing in them the qualities of leadership and responsibility required for nation building.

The campus based club which commenced in the year 2003 under the dynamic leadership of Rtr.Meghal Somaiya, built up a strong reputation for its performance over the past 3 years.

Rtr.Kumar with the motto "Zeal To Serve" took over as President in the following year, bagging the "Outstanding Campus Based Club" recognition award for Rotaract Year 2004-2005 and helped our club carve a niche for itself in the District.

The club then reached its pinnacle in the year 2005-06 under the leadership of its P
resident Rtr.Sundar. The theme of that year “Rotaraction in Every Heart”, worked liked magic resulting in the club bagging as many as 13 awards in the 35th Rotaract District Assembly held at Calicut on the 9th and 10th of July’06. The club walked away with the rolling trophy for the "Outstanding Club for Well-Balanced Activities"

In the following year, another able leader in the form of Rtr.Sharath Giri took over the mantle of Presidentship and created Indelible Impressions.

OUR FOUNDER

Rotary may be the greatest organization of leaders in the world. With 1.2 million Rotarians in 170 countries, we have an incredible asset of talent, wisdom and know-how in one organization. It all started with Rotary's Founder Paul Harris, who celebrated his 140th birthday. He was born on April 19, 1868. Paul Harris is well-known in Rotary, but what most Rotarians may not know is that Paul Harris made his main contributions to Rotary as a young man. He was only 37 years old when Rotary was founded. He was only 44 when his two year term as President of the International Association of Rotary Clubs ended in 1912 (later in 1922 it was renamed Rotary International). After 1912, Paul Harris had no formal position in Rotary. He was the Founder of Rotary and continued to influence and inspire Rotary for the rest of his life, until he passed away in 1947. It is my opinion that Paul Harris' vision has created the spirit in Rotary as we know it today.
Here are some examples of Paul Harris' Wisdom:
"A well ordered mind is a possession more valuable than unlimited riches. It is just a bit of speaking kindly as it is to acquire the habit of speaking unkindly. Perhaps dreaming is not so bad if one dreams good dreams and make them come true.

Rotary brings out and develops the best in people. The Rotary of today is different from the Rotary of yesterday and the Rotary of tomorrow cannot, must not, be the same as the Rotary of today. Rotary will continue to evolve."

"WE MUST STAND TALL WITH OUR HEADS HELD HIGH, FOR WE ALL FORM PART OF THIS GREAT ORGANIZATION."

ROTARY

Derivation of the Rotary name:

The name Rotary was chosen to reflect the custom, in the early days of the first Rotary Club in Chicago, of rotating the site of club meetings among the members' places of business. This rotation, an integral part of the founder's original concept, was designed to acquaint members with one another's vocations and to promote business, but the club's rapid growth soon made the custom impractical.

Mottos:

The enthusiasm with which Rotarians embraced the ideal of service is evidenced by Rotary's Principal Motto, "Service Above Self" and its other official precept, "He Profits Most Who Serves Best." The roots of both of these adages, adopted as official mottos at the 1950 RI Convention, can be traced back to the first decade of Rotary's existence, when "He profits most who serves his fellows best and Service not Self were both put forth as slogans. In 1989, the RI Council on Legislation designated "Service above Self" as the principal motto.

Object of Rotary:

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life;
FOURTH: The advancement of International Understanding, Goodwill, and Peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

ROTARY EMBLEM

Rotary's early emblem was a simple wagon wheel (in motion with dust). It was designed in 1905 by Montague M. Bear, a member of the Rotary Club of Chicago who was an engraver. He designed the emblem to represent both civilization and movement. Most of the early Rotary clubs adopted the wheel in one form or another.
In 1922, the organization decided to create and preserve an emblem for the exclusive use of all Rotarians, and the following year, the present emblem, a gearwheel with 24 cogs and six spokes, was adopted. A keyway was added to signify the usefulness of the gearwheel.
An official description of the emblem was adopted at the 1929 International Convention. Royal blue and gold were chosen as the official Rotary colours and the flag of Rotary was designated as a white field with the emblem emblazoned in its centre. The emblem, worn as a lapel pin, now identifies Rotarians around the world.
The Rotary emblem is a trademark owned by Rotary International and is protected throughout the world by the international association. The emblem is a registered trademark in more than 35 countries to date.
Clubs, districts and Rotary entities are welcome to use the Rotary emblem subject to the guidelines for the use of the Rotary Marks as set forth by RI's Board of Directors. These guidelines govern the use of the Rotary Marks on all merchandise, promotional materials and publications, including domain names and web sites.

RI THEME FOR THE YEAR 2007-2008

ROTARACT

ROTARACT is an international program for young men and women ages 18 to 30 who believe they can make a difference. ROTARACT clubs provide an opportunity for young adults to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.

ROTARACT was founded in 1968 by ROTARY INTERNATIONAL, a worldwide association of service-minded business and professional leaders. Today there are over 6,000 Rotary-supported ROTARACT clubs with more than 130,000 members in some 120 countries around the world. Clubs are either community-based or university-based.

Most ROTARACT activities take place at the club level. ROTARACT clubs hold formal meetings, usually every two weeks, which feature speakers, special outings, social activities, discussions or visits to other clubs. Club members also get together for service projects, social events or professional/leadership development workshops.

ROTARACT clubs associate at the ROTARY district level where they are represented by an elected Rotaractor, the District ROTARACT Representative, and his or her committee. This association of clubs at the district level provides the opportunity for joint ROTARACT club conferences, project, training and leadership seminars and other cooperative activities. It also strengthens and promotes long-lasting friendships between club members.

At the international level Rotaractors and Rotarians have the opportunity to attend an annual forum held prior to the ROTARY INTERNATIONAL Convention. This event offers Rotaractors from all over the world the chance to meet, discuss issues of mutual interest and develop bonds of international understanding and goodwill. When young people join ROTARACT, they join a community which extends across the world, bringing friendship and hope to the lives of people around them.
ROTARACT PRAYER
" O God ! Our Almighty Father and Ruler of the Universe,
We thank thee for the inspiration you have given us for the
Rotaract Movement based upon Service to mankind.
We humbly beg you to continue thy grace to enable us to do
our service to ourselves and to our neighbors and to the
honor and glory of thy holy name "

INTERACT

Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people ages 14-18, they are sponsored from a rotary club which provide support and guidance, but Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting.. The program gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. Club membership varies greatly. Clubs can be single-gender or mixed, as well as large and small. The membership base can be drawn from the student body of a single school or from two or more schools from the same community. Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through projects, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs. And, in the process, Interactors develop leadership skills and learn the value of hard work.
As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 8,600 Interact clubs in some 110 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon.
Interactors also often spearhead the formation of Rotaract clubs and participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). Interactors also often go on to become Youth Exchange students or Ambassadorial Scholars.
Through service activities, Interactors learn the importance of:
...Developing leadership skills and personal integrity.
...Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others.
...Advancing international understanding and goodwill.

OUR CLUB LOGO AND THEME

ROTARACT BEATS….
CHANGING LIVES

The theme “Rotaract Beats… Changing Lives” was chosen this year, at a juncture when our club has matured and grown stronger with the spirit of the Rotaract movement over the past four years since it was born.

We are here today with a sense of verve. Verve means enthusiasm. This enthusiasm was born out of commitment to a purpose – to groom our leadership skills and to serve the needy. The Rotaractors of the “Rotaract Club of PSGCAS” who have imbibed this passion, have therefore adopted this motto "ROTARACT BEATS… CHANGING LIVES " for this year, 2007-08.

It is our aim to motivate and involve every member by injecting his or her heart with the spirit of Rotaraction.

How does one bring in this involvement?

Fun and fellowship is all part of Rotaract. Rotaractors being the youth of today, it is necessary to kindle the spirit of fun and fellowship amongst members. This will receive priority. Secondly, Individual Development programs by world-class faculty will benefit the members and other target groups and will add value to their education and enable them to acquire that cutting edge so necessary in this competitive world.

Finally, meaningful projects to serve the community will provide the members an opportunity to showcase their skills and enthusiasm, which would infuse them with values of good and responsible citizenship.

Friends, let us continue to dream, react and reach out together for the cause of Rotaraction.
